Dir en grey new album?
I just read this post on the dir en grey lj comm by pyroyale…she typed it word for word from UK’s magazine, Metal Hammer.
Primed to launch a fresh assault on the rest of the world, Japanese metallic whackjobs Dir En Grey are in the midst of recording their seventh full-length album. The follow-up to 2007’s widely acclaimed The Marrow of a Bone, the band’s new opus is being recorded in Japan and produced by Yoshiki Hayashi, a founder member of X-Japan, one of the country’s biggest rock bands. Hammer spoke to Dir En Grey guitarist Kaoru about whether the new album was going to be the one to break the band both in the UK and the United States.
This is awesome news!! Yoshiki has a sound all his own, and you can totally hear it when he produces albums. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge dir fan…but honestly, Marrow of a Bone was not their best work. Yoshiki producing for them again is awesome news!
“Absolutely!” says Kaoru. “But we are trying to create Japanese sounds that are not British or American. We thought about getting an international engineer or producer, but we decided not to. We thought that recording in Japan might be more suitable for our work this time. We’ve never worked with Yoshiki before, but he’s like one of our forefathers. We call him ‘Abarenbo Shogun’ which means he’s a rowdy general.”
But this is what I have an issue with. I think the magazine got their translation of Kaoru’s words wrong. They have worked with Yoshiki before, in fact at least 5 of their first singles were produced by him…as was Gauze, unless I’m totally mistaken, and I’m pretty sure I’m not. I remember an interview with Shinya a long time ago where they asked him about working with Yoshiki.
But no matter how poorly Metal Hammer translated it, it’s still really good news! Yoshiki working with Dir en grey again can only mean good stuff I think. Stay tuned.
